We believe in being good neighbors and are deeply committed to positively impacting our surrounding communities, especially those of Esperanza and Las Delicias. Our engagement with these communities has revealed specific needs we are eager to support.
REVIVING THE COASTLINE
Proud Sponsors of Costas Verdes
Costas Verdes has been dedicated to restoring coastal forests in Costa Rica for over 14 years. As a Silver Sponsor, we support their mission to create a diverse coastal forest corridor along the Pacific coastline.
Coastal forests, devastated decades ago by human activities, require significant planning and careful human intervention for recovery, unlike other forests that can regenerate naturally.
Along with Costas Verdes, we believe in the community's power to make these reforestation projects sustainable in the long term.
SUPPORTING LOCAL SCHOOLS
Donations & Volunteering
Shift members have raised $5000 to support the Esperanza school and recently donated funds to support their English festival.
We also discovered that the Delicias elementary school received a generous donation of cement to build an outdoor gym. However, to prevent the cement from becoming unusable, they need to purchase and rent additional construction materials, amounting to $5000. We therefore donated this amount so that they could proceed with the build. In addition, we have provided various toys and items to the children of the school.
CARBON OFFSETTING
Collaborating for the health of our planet
Shift has also established the ‘Growing Trees Together’ program, a local initiative with an innovative approach to carbon offsets: Shift partners with area neighbors to improve food security, sell fruit to generate income and care for the organic fruit trees and edible agroforestry to help them survive and thrive.
In tending to the trees on their own land, our neighbors play a critical role in protecting the trees from premature death or harvest — as can occur with conventional carbon offset reforestation programs.
Regional participants in Nosara select the quantity and types of trees and plants they prefer to plant, eat, and sell. Shift donates trees for them to plant on their own land and provides classes on how to plant, grow, and care for them.
We congratulate this program for caring for 100 trees and for taking the first steps toward planting in May 2023.
